Julian Baker

What is your name? How old are you?
I am called Julian Baker, I was born in the early sixties.

What value do you think your art offers art?
None if value is a monetary term. What would I like my art to achieve? "To look again". I take portraits of naked people, not art nudes. Art nudes are for the voyeur, for consumption without guilt. I want my portraits to stare back at the viewer. To remind them this is a gaze between *people*.

If you were a shape which would you be?
A donut. Optional hundreds and thousands.

If you could speak any language which would you choose?
Swahili.

Can you quickly list five words that rhyme with flash?
cash, mash, lash, bash, dash

Do you consider yourself to be an honest person?
Yes.

Would you prefer to be loved or hated because of the art you produce?
Loved.

Tell me something you like?
Methylenedioxymethamphetamine.

Where do you work?
In a hut.

Ask yourself a question and answer it.
What are your favourite smells?
Freshly cut grass, petrol, launderettes, women, bread out the oven, play doh, gingerbread and damp wool, a pine breeze over saltwater wet decking...
